Great shows to look forward to

Five years ago, I couldn't count on one hand the number of TV shows that I watched (including Saints games). Today, I need at least three. With Comic-Con 2008 in San Diego wrapping up, loads of news about my favorite shows, and others that I consider mediocre or simple entertainment, is coming out the wood works. There are a lot of shows to look forward to, and here's something we will see a lot more of in the upcoming season of Chuck: Bromance.

The new season of Monk started just over a week ago and so far it's the show I've come to know and love. While no word has been said if this season will be its last, Tony Shalhoub, who plays Adrian Monk, has stated that a movie may be coming and that it's possible that it may serve as the show's series finale.

24, which has probably suffered more than any other show still in production due to the writer's strike, has a prequel movie coming in November and a new non-stop season to start in January 2009. Returning to the mix is Tony Almeida, who was thought to have been killed in season five by Christopher Henderson. Silent clock or not, I came to terms that Tony was gone, but now he's back. The writer's have said they will explain how he isn't dead, and I sure hope it's something believable.

The lovable Chuck is also coming back, with a full order of episodes coming our way to last us from Fall to Spring. I'm excited about this show because it's not only funny and fun to watch, Becky enjoys it as much as I do. It will also serve as a great starting show before heading into Heroes.

Heroes? Yes! After a poor display in season two, the show's creator admitted that things were just done poorly in the writing and that the fans have been heard. What I've seen and heard of the third season of Heroes sounds like the writer's got their act together and are dedicated to surpassing the bar that season one set. Enter Villains, a darker story that kicks off with Sylar's triumphant quote, "I'm back."

In a few months the fate of Warrick Brown will finally be revealed in CSI. I'm already convinced that he's not coming back, but being a long time CSI fan, seeing that happen to one of the original cast members was gut wrenching and heart breaking. So far we've lost Sara Sidle and now Brown. In less spoilerific news, William Peterson, who plays Gilbert "Gil" Grissom, is only signed on for ten episodes for the ninth season, which means that after episode ten, we will see very little, if any, of Gil (Peterson is Executive Producer, so we may see him show up from time to time). CSI without Grissom... he's like the cornerstone of the group! They all compliment each other greatly, so I'm not looking forward to seeing half the cast being replaced. I am, however, looking forward to seeing how the characters of the show handle losing one of their own by a cop, of all people. It'll be moving to say the least, and is definitely an interesting twist in the show's character development.

Last but not least, Lost. While this show doesn't return until February 2009, bits of information is still coming out about it. Shooting on the fifth season begins next month, and to give us something to ponder, here's a video that aired at Comic-Con 2008 from the man we've come to know as Dr. Marvin Candle. Warning: contains one s-bomb from the person filming early in the video at the :39 second mark. There are still a ton of questions, so hopefully this next season will provide some more insight as season four did. This show, like 24, is still months away, but it will be here in the blink of an eye!

There are others shows returning, but I don't consider myself to be a fan as I do to the above shows, such as Prison Break, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Battlestar Galactica and Jericho. Oh, wait, sorry, Jericho got canned. Woops!
